Halloween 1961

That was one of the biggest congregations of high school students ever in Fayetteville. Dr. Colasanti owned the strip mall at the top of the hill behind the then Mr. Steak. When he heard there was a "riot' in the upper village he drove down and he had his car spray painted and I believe a tire or two slashed. A few of the brave ones rode shopping carts down the hill as far as they could go. And who, especially those from the bogs(lower Fayetteville) could forget the best prank on October 31st. Remember all those cars that were set up on the Post Office steps every Halloween. One of the last ones I remember was a VW. But one of the most on-going things I remember about the time before and after Halloween was the smell of burning leaves as the smoke would waft throughout the Village. Keep on bloggin!!!

Hi Kerry,
I took off when the cops arrived! Ditto on the burning leaves. These days, THAT would bring the cops...at least in Somerset!

Oh, yeah! I recall the "burning bag" approach on Ms. Lester's doorstep on Elm Street.
Also recall an "egging" of Police Chief Charlie "Cha Cha" Penrose, but can't say it was Halloween '61, although I believe so.
